Deep cleaning and organizing can feel overwhelming, especially with many other aspects of our lives holding our attention. Rather than instantly feeling bogged down by the seemingly gigantic task that is Spring Cleaning, let's try to look at it as an opportunity. Not only is this an opportunity to tidy up your space, it’s also an opportunity to boost your mood, your productivity, and your health! Cleaning has so many benefits, and when we keep up with it, we can feel better all year round. What better way to kick off the new season than a boost in overall well-being?
Keep reading for some tips and tricks to help you conquer your Spring Cleaning.
I don't know about you, but March really snuck up on me. It feels like just yesterday we were beginning to shut down and stay home, uncertain of how long quarantine might last.
Maybe you used that quarantine downtime to binge watch Tiger King or maybe you caught up on reading....
Maybe you used that quarantine downtime to clean your space until it was sparkling, hoping it would stay that way forever...
BUT the dust reappeared, the neatly folded sweaters ended up in a heap, and the expired makeup products seemed to find a permanent home in the back of the drawer.
It's that time of year again - time to tackle your spring cleaning list!
1. Break up your space.
Regardless of if you live in a 500 square foot apartment or a 5,000 square foot house, break up your spaces. Each space will feel more manageable and you will get to check more things off of your list!
2. Set a timer.
Set a timer on your phone for whatever amount of time feels manageable to you and clean for that amount of time, then take a break. Whether you clean for 5 minutes, 45 minutes, or 2 hours, stick to your timer and allow yourself those necessary breaks!
3. Use a checklist.
Use the checklist we have created for you or feel free to make your own. Lists help you to stay focused and remind you of what you are trying to accomplish. Plus, checking off those boxes feels pretty good.
4. Upgrade the organizational flow.
Rather than taking things out of cupboards and off of shelves, cleaning, and then putting them right back, try to consider if the organizational flow still works. If it does, great! If it doesn’t, consider how you might upgrade that flow. This might look like moving the plates and cups closer to the dishwasher for easy unloading or storing the washcloths for your face in the drawer by the sink instead of the linen closet around the corner.
5. Have fun!
Cleaning does not need to be dull and laborious. Stream your favorite show or listen to some music to pump you up. We’ve even created the perfect Spotify playlist for the occasion!
